The Leoniano Classical High School is a catholic institution founded in 1984 with the specific goal of offering the towns in the northern part of the Province of Frosinone a school based on both catholic principles and a long standing cultural heritage. Our school policy is focused on the human being in his cultural, moral, social, religious and creative development.

The hundred students who attend our school come from a number of towns in the area and are part of the eight classes ranging from grades six to eight. The low teacher-students ratio is a specific aspect of our school; this ratio allows the faculty to establish the best didactic and formative relationship possible for each student. With this ratio it has been possible to offer our students curricula tailored to their needs and aims.

The Leoniano Classical High School, sponsored by the Diocese of Anagni-Alatri, is located in the heart of the medieval town of Anagni in Italy, fifty kilometres south of Rome.

Anagni is an ancient town in Latium, in the hills southeast of Rome, and overlooks the Sacco valley. It is famous for its historical connections with the Holy See.

Recent discoveries indicate that the town was populated by Etruscans in the 7th century BC, and that it was perhaps a commercial center in which there was trade with the people of Magna Grecia.

Its ties with Rome go back as far as Republican and Imperial times. In fact several emperors would spend their vacations here; a tendency which was to be later followed by Popes. It was so famous in medieval times that Dante mentioned it in The Divine Comedy in reference to Pope Boniface VIII.

The structure of the town has preserved the beauty of many medieval buildings and homes making it a unique attraction.

The School comprises grades 6 to 13 divided into two distinct courses: the first is a general course for grades 6-8 and the second is a High School course based on Classical studies. It operates in an area which is rich with cultural and historical heritage and which has undergone a relevant economical and industrial transformation. For this reason our school associates classical knowledge and modern technologies.

The curricular activities are based on the teaching of the following subjects:

  • Italian
  • Latin and Latin literature
  • Greek and Greek literature
  • English
  • Spanish
  • History
  • History of Art
  • Music
  • Philosophy
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Natural Sciences
  • Geography
  • Economy
  • Computer Sciences
  • Law
  • Religion
  • Physical Education

Our activities also include Theatre, Journalism and frequent visits to museums, exhibitions and archaeological sites in Rome and in the Region of Latium and, in recent years, selected groups of our students have been taken to England, Scotland and Wales to improve their knowledge of English and of UK culture.

The Leoniano High School is administrated by:
H.E. Lorenzo Loppa, Bishop of the Anagni-Alatri Diocese,
Superintendent F. Antonio Castagnacci,
two Principals: F. Agostino Santucci, for the middle school, and Mr. Ludovico Quattrocchi, for the high school.

The school faculty is composed of twenty teachers who go through a rigorous selection process by a faculty committee, as well as reference checks and interviews by the Superintendent and the Principals. Teachers are selected according to their credentials, experience, and commitment. Other important considerations are their ability to contribute to the community of the school, their philosophy of education, and their experiences prior to coming to the Leoniano.

All faculty are fully qualified in their area of expertise with a University M.A. and must hold a current Italian State Teaching Certification. This applies to both Middle and High School teachers.
